#Computer Types of computers - at the core of the working principal

Types of computers - at the core of the working principal :-

On the basis of working principle, computers can be classified into:

1. Analog Computer
2. Digital Computer
3. Hybrid Computer

»Analog Computer:-

Analog computers operate at inputs of continuously varying voltages. It measures input rather than count. The name, which is derived from the Greek word 'analog', shows that a computer works by establishing similarities between two quantities that are usually expressed as voltages or currents. Analog computers are powerful tools for solving differential equations. It is mainly used in scientific design and production environments. Each has to build to do a specific job and will respond very quickly to changes in measured inputs.

 »Digital computer :-

A digital computer is essentially powered by counting. All quantities are expressed as discrete digits or numbers and are calculated with numerical digits. Mathematical expressions are represented as binary digits (0 and 1) and all operations are performed using these binary digits at a very high rate. Digital computer basically knows addition. The remaining operations, like multiplication and division, are first converted to -so and then computed. Digital computers are much faster than analog computers and computations are far more accurate. They come in a variety of sizes starting from pocket size to large systems to large rooms. Most computers available today are digital.

»Hybrid Computer:-

Hybrid computers combine the characteristics of both analog and digital computers. In this computer, some calculations are done in the analog part of the computer and some in its digital part. In a hospital, for example, analog devices can measure a patient's heart function, temperature, and other vital signs. These measurements can then be converted into numbers and supplied to a digital component in the system. This component is used to monitor vital signs of the patient and to send an immediate signal to the nurse's station if any abnormal readings are detected.
